If you are looking for a composter that also is green, you will need to make sure not to choose a composter that is made of a material like polyvinyl chloride (PVC).  Though PVC is used all over the world it is a material that is questionable due to concerns about the environmental and toxicity characteristics of kind of plastic.  Because it is strong and cheap to produce it is used for many applications such as the making of composters.

An alternative to this type of plastic is recycled polyethylene plastic, which is used to make composters as well.  You just need to make sure you are getting a composter that is both environmentally friendly and still do the job you expect it to do.  Composting is one of the easiest things to do and keeps a tremendous amount of trash out of the landfills while letting you develop a nutrient rich product made from your own biodegradable scraps.  You can feel really good about the entire process and even better when you use a composter made from recycled plastic.

A strange as it may seem, finding gardening tools and other items to till the soil in your back yard has not always been easy.  Just take a look at the tools and you will see a lot of wood and plastic.  That means trees are coming down and when you’re done with it, the plastic could end up in your local landfill; and for a very long time.

You can’t avoid plastic and wood altogether when buying those tools and supplies for your garden. So what’s a gardener to do?  The best solution is to find tools and other items made from organic or recycled plastic products and to support those companies who are actively saving plastic from landfills. It is fortunate that many companies are using recycled plastic to make garden products and are willing to take them back and reuse them.  The more we encourage these companies to be and go green with their products, the more common these types products are becoming.

It seems these days that everyone is attempting to “cash in” on everything green.  It’s amazing at how many things really aren’t that green as well as how many things that are really green go unnoticed.  Just because an item says its green doesn’t mean it’s so.

You really have to do some research to make sure what you are doing are the best possible things to reduce energy costs at home and greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere.  Some of the things we know work are changing your light bulbs to the new florescent types; keeping your filters cleaned and unplugging phone chargers, laptop chargers and anything else you are not using as it is still pulling energy if left plugged in.

It’s those other things that we all don’t know about that throw us.  It is good to get some information and benefits from both community organizations and/or the green community, both of which will need to depend on each other for mutual success.  We must be diligent and dedicated to cutting carbon emissions to secure our long history and continue our story.
